US Senator Bernie Sanders has sold out the progressive movement to Wall Street by pulling out of the Democratic nomination race, according to Myles Hoenig, an American political analyst and activist.
On Wednesday, Sanders shocked his supporters by ending his presidential campaign, clearing his rival, Joe Bidens path to the Democratic nomination.
"I wish I could give you better news, but I think you know the truth, and that is that we are now some 300 delegates behind Vice President Biden, and the path toward victory is virtually impossible," Sanders said in a livestream after the call.
"So while we are winning the ideological battle and while we are winning the support of so many young people and working people throughout the country, I have concluded that this battle for the Democratic nomination will not be successful. And so today I am announcing the suspension of my campaign," he added.
In an interview with Press TV on Friday, Hoenig said, "The fire that was raging in Washington, known as Bernie Sanders, has been put out by a cup of water. From this day forward, his role in promoting real change is diminished greatly. Hell still have a voice but it will be one of many, no longer the sole voice of the people. Like four years ago, he sold out not just to the DNC but to Wall Street as well. By likely endorsing Biden, he will be encouraging people who want radical change to vote for the man who has taken a very conservative, status quo course, and often opposite regarding policies."
"The issues ahead for the ‘Sandersnistas is will they vote for Biden, will they stay home, or will they vote for a third party? Many will vote for the Democratic candidate, even if its Biden, but enough will not and that will give us another four tumultuous years of Trump. In this way it will be a repeat of 2016. The establishment is already blaming Sanders for Bidens loss in November so they have no real leverage over Sanderss supporters," he stated.
"The other main question is will Biden be the nominee? The DNC, with the help of the president most beholden to Wall Street Obama, have eliminated the last main rival and an easy path to the convention for the Biden camp, if there is one. Yet Joe Biden is a wild card. It wont be easy to hide all the charges of misogyny, rape, segregationism and racism, and war mongering that has been Bidens trademark for his entire political history. Everything Sanders believed and fought for, and the reasons why he had millions of supporters, can be nowhere found in a Biden testimonial," he noted.
"What wont be repeated from 2016 is the revulsion most voters had for both Clinton and Trump. This time, even as revolting as Trump is as a human being, there will more likely be an acceptance of another four years or such disgust in the process that those who wont vote will do it out of not caring anymore. Biden is a likeable guy to moderate Americans. Like him, they can be misogynistic, racist, and supporters of endless wars. It is that edge of the population, those people whose GOTV efforts go after, that will sit this one out," he said.
"The charges of rape and sexual harassment will follow him to November but many who wont vote for him for this reason will likely be silent, as the DNC and the media will go after them very harshly if and when he loses to Trump," he added.
"Finally, the DNC needs to decide if Biden is the right candidate. A Biden speech, interview, debate will cause enormous consternation among the DNC leadership as he will likely show of what level of dementia he may be suffering. And if they try to pick a candidate who has either never run for the office or did not win during the primaries, democracy at its core will be forever tarnished, and especially if the Corona virus is history by the time of this election," the analyst concluded.
